Christmas Lights

This is the new light fixture my husband was installing on Christmas Eve day. He had to go through quite the acrobatics to get it up there since it hangs in the stairwell. He also had to paint that part of the ceiling that was all stained once he removed the old brass light.

Our house is kind of funny, it's like a split level but you enter on the downstairs floor and then go upstairs to the main floor with the kitchen, living room, main bath and three bedrooms.
Here is a picture of this area before:

We spent most of our Christmas money on light fixtures, and kitchen/bath hardware and a few other things to finish up some house projects. That might not sound light a very exciting Christmas present for some people, but I'm really happy with it! I thought of just using this light fixture and spray painting the metal part black or oil-rubbed bronze, but all the light fixtures in this house had this beveled glass that created a prismy shadowy effect on the walls, plus the light was very glaring and we just didn't like it at all, so we've been slowly replacing all of it. Only one more to go- I bought a chandalier at Ikea for my birthday and it was broken- so annoying! So, we need to exchange and install that one and then all the light fixtures will be done. The only other thing to finish up here is that little strip of the wall at the top that's not painted. Slowly but surely, we're getting there. At least at this point we feel like we're living in an actual house rather than a construction project!
