Make Way

One of my favorite aunties came to visit the week that school started. It was so fun to see her!! She wanted to go downtown to the Public Garden to ride the swan boats and see the Make Way for Ducklings statues. We were so bummed out when we got there and the swan boats were closed! They were supposed to be running but they didn't open since it was supposed to rain, what kind of wimpy swan boad drivers cancel out when it MIGHT rain?! (it did start sprinkling a little as we were leaving) At least we got to play on the duck statues and take some cute pictures, and of course now she has an excuse to come back!
It was a sad goodbye, but she will come again some other time, and we will see her there, in her underwear! (inside joke)

They said they weren't happy to go back, but they look pretty excited to me!

She wishes she could go to school with her brothers too.

But lucky for me she gets to stay home with mommy all day!

By the time school started we were all more than ready for everyone to go back. It was a long summer and we were all getting a little stir crazy! Summer ended quickly with a cold snap that started right when it was time for school, so perfect timing. It's been almost two weeks now and everyone seems to be really happy and liking their teachers/classes/friends and all of that. All I have to say when I look at these pictures of the boys is, time flies!

Belated Birthday #3

I have to tell you that we didn't have the best of luck for this little gal's 2nd birthday. We planned her party a few days early for Sunday right after church when the cousins would still be here, they were flying home later that afternoon. I woke up feeling not so great but went to church anyway since it was my oldest son's first time blessing the sacrament at church, so I didn't want to miss that. AND my mom, sisters and I were supposed to be singing in church. The longer I sat there, the more the pain in my stomach grew, but I sang anyway, and then booked it out of there! By the time we got home I was in serious pain and throwing up- it was so awful! So we had all of this food ready to bbq and feed the whole family, so we decided to just go ahead with it since the cousins were leaving. Otherwise I would never have had a party when I was feeling that horrible! So anyway, needless to say I didn't get to enjoy the party at all, I just kind of laid there trying not to moan and didn't eat one bite of the yummy food we made, or of the pretty cake my sister made. It was kind of a bummer, for me, although I think she still had a good time and that's what matters! Oh, and that's why the pictures of her bday are not that great, I was taking them (don't ask me why) and in that state, I didn't do the best job ever!
Since we'd already had the party we were keeping her actual bday pretty lowkey. We opened some presents in the morning before Daddy left for work, and then I planned to take her to the beach (our little town beach where we pretty much spent our whole summer!) since it is her absolute most favorite place to be. So we get to the beach, and my kids had literally just gotten in the water when the lifeguards heard a clap of thunder and sent us all out of the water Within 5 minutes we were in the middle of a torrential downpour and had to race to the car and still got absolutely soaked! So, a birthday full of snafus, but she went ahead and turned two despite them!
She got some adorable clothes and the cutest socks from her Great Grandma with little beads crocheted on them in all the colors of the rainbow. I love those! She also got lots of pretend food and some dishes and she loves to "cook" with them and push them around in her shopping cart.
My hubby celebrated his 42nd bday a week later with his usual carrot cake, and we actually got to go on a date. Once again we survived the summer o' birthdays!

Belated Birthday #2

This guy turned 6 this year! It was fun having his cousins here for his birthday. I think I mentioned that he requested pie for his birthday, so I made pumpkin, apple and banana cream. His silly uncle even gave him a whole chocolate pie! (and a block of cheese- he's weird like that)
He got a new bike for his birthday and learned to ride the first time his dad took him out to try it. In just a few days he was starting and stopping all by himself and riding all over the place!

Belated Birthday #1

This is for Nat who asked for pictures of the kids' bdays. We have a LOT of birthdays in the summer in our family. Four within 4 weeks, so it's always quite a whirlwind! So this big guy turned 16! Here you actually have to be 16&1/2 to drive, so he's not driving yet, but it won't be long (scary!). He is also technically old enough to date according to church standards, but I think that may not happen until the driving thing too. Because, who wants to take a date on the bus? Or worse yet, have your dorky parents drive you?!
He was doing wrestling camp during the week of his birthday, so he came home at about 10pm after wrestling all day and we did a quick celebration. Later when that was all done, we went to see the Harry Potter movie. Those movies and books have always coincided with his bday so we've usually had a HP-themed celebration. He's a great kid and I can't believe I have a kid who is 16 and halfway through High School!

Old Geezer Beaver

This is the stuffed animal (if you can even call it that) that I made for my now 6 year old's birthday present. It's kind of freaky looking, I know, but it is based on this picture, and I aim to please:

It's a beaver that is old- hence the name (I didn't come up with that myself)

When I first did this kind of project a couple of years ago, I didn't necessarily mean for it to become a tradition, but now they are starting to expect it! It's ok, I guess I should be excited that they want me to make them stuff. Next on the adgenda- I'd really like to make each of the boys a quilt.

"Mama, I got my scrumscream on...

...and I'm ready for the beach!"
(and my Dorothy shoes)

Silly girl.
Well, I got Picasa figured out finally so it's time to catch up a little (I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it. Kind of annoying). I thought I'd do that first with a few random pictures!

Ride 'em cowboy! (or cowgirl)

My talented cake making sister made this wedding cake for some people:

Isn't it so pretty?

A better pictures of the onesies I made for Nat's shower:

Sometimes it's nice to have a little blogging break, but it's always fun to start up again!
